Alexis first began her yoga journey taking classes intermittently at her former church with her mother. In 2016, she stumbled upon an Ashtanga yoga class at the University of Michigan. The regularly scheduled class helped Alexis build discipline, endurance, and mind-body awareness that she continues to work on applying to life on and off the mat. Upon moving to New York, she sought out a space to discover herself and continue her yoga practice, but noticed few teachers of color among the different yoga studios she attended.
Alexis went on to complete her yoga teacher training with MindBodySoul Yoga in 2017. The philosophy of yoga resonated with Alexis, and inspired her to share the teachings and practice of self-awareness, breath, and consciousness to others. Practicing yoga had a large impact on Alexis, and as a teacher, she aims to cultivate a space where yoga is a practice of self-discovery, peace, and agency. Alexis enjoys a variety of yoga styles and is moved to make yoga an accessible practice.
Practice with Alexis virtually on Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm.
